Happy New Year!

Morel Studio Support wishes everyone a safe and fun New Year’s celebration!  May 2012 be your best year yet.

If you’re planning on heading down to Atlanta’s Peach Drop, here is a cool article with tips to simplify firework photography. Atlanta has a serious need for some quality New Year’s Eve firework pictures.  Insert “Atlanta, New Years Eve, fireworks” into Google Images to see what I mean…hence the photo of a random firework picture above.

Two great west coast photographers are in town to discuss their recent projects. Jill Greenberg, aka the Manipulator, will be at Hagedorn to talk about The Glass Ceiling while Timothy Archibald will speak at Emory’s School of Medicine about his project, ECHOLILIA.

The reception for The Glass Ceiling is tonight from 6-9pm at Hagedorn. The lecture for ECHOLILIA is tonight from 7-9pm at Emory. Details and directions are here.

Martin Schoeller at SCAD tonight

German-born, NY-based photo wunderkind Martin Schoeller will be speaking tonight at SCAD as part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography. The lecture begins at 7pm and details on how to get there can be found here.

Below is a video of Martin working on his female bodybuilders project. He is well-known for his personality and ease with subjects, traits that come across in the segment. Bonus: you get a look at his always cool lighting setup.

ACP kicks off with FLUX 2011

Atlanta Celebrates Photography gets going this weekend with FLUX 2011 on Friday night in Castleberry Hill. The show begins at 8pm with a bicycle lantern ride and will feature photo exhibits, puppetry, dancing, and multimedia pieces. It all ends at midnight with molten iron fireworks hosted by our pals over at Elliott Street Pub.

Seriously, if you’re planning on attending, either arrive early or plan on taking Marta (subway to GWCC + 8 min. walk) because the streets will be packed with few options to stow your vehicle.

Since ACP pretty much envelops the city for a few weeks, you’ll need to scan the festival guide to see what’s happening when to stay afloat. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone and catching up at some of these fantastic events.

Mike Schreiber at Hagedorn

One of our favorite down-n-dirty music shooters, Brooklyn-based Mike Schreiber will be in town at the Hagedorn this Saturday. The event opens with a panel discussion at 5pm featuring Schreiber, Creative Loafing’s Rodney Carmichael, Fahamu Pecou, and from the WEB DuBois Institute, Dr. Dr. Joyce Wilson….fancy!

Following that is a meet and greet and signing for Schreiber’s new book, True Hip-Hop from 6:30-9pm. The event is part of the National Black Arts Festival and Jason Florio will also be exhibiting his work, Makasutu. Hope to see you there.
